I started my new job as the Development Associate at the Honolulu Museum of Art this week! Pictured here is an environmental stickwork piece being installed on the museum’s lawn by Patrick Dougherty. The full installation will be finished by the end of the week, and will be on display for the remainder of the year.

This past weekend, I had the opportunity to attend the Kroc Center’s opening weekend festivities in Kapolei. I worked for 3 and a half years as a member of the project team, and to see this center open its doors to the community of West Oahu is nothing short of amazing! I was so proud to be apart of this new and exciting venture for The Salvation Army and I know that many families will be blessed to be able to celebrate and worship at this facility!

Cory had the brilliant idea to eat lunch at Uncle’s Fish Market (on Nimitz Hwy. at Pier 38) this past Sunday, and boy was it delicious! I ordered the Opah Fish & Chips which came with a side of Ahi Poke. I haven’t had anything here that isn’t less than amazing. Highly recommended!

I attended a lecture at the Honolulu Academy of Arts today. The curator of the Anxiety’s Edge exhibit, Jay Jensen, was in house to share his insight on how he chose the pieces for the exhibit. There was talk of this becoming a monthly lecture…I hope that’s the case because I had a great time!

As I was scrolling through my facebook friends’ updates today I noticed a lot of photos of the snow piling up in the colder parts of the country. I have to say that seeing all of those pictures really made me miss being able to bundle up in a coat, scarf and hat. Besides, there’s just something serene and peaceful when the snow comes to rest on familiar landscape…like a big fluffy (albeit cold) blanket! Here’s a photo that I snapped of the Flatirons dusted in the powdery white stuff while we were in Colorado last October. Enjoy!

Picked up the Tonkatsu Sandwich from Shirokia today for lunch. I suggest grabbing a couple packets of katsu sauce for some kick. I love browsing all of the different foods at Shirokia’s food court, from tempura to udon, and unagi to crepes…wait, crepes? Yes, I said crepes.

It has been nice to have some time off from work. One of the perks of having all this time on my hands has been that I get to pack my husband’s lunch for him while he goes off to bring home the bacon, as they say. One of his favorite lunches has become salad-in-a-jar. For some reason, salad is just more fun when eaten from a jar. Don’t ask me why, it just is. Besides, it looks really pretty!

It was fish taco night at the Tobias house. We used blackened opah (moonfish) and topped it with tomatoes, onions, cheese and guacamole; accompanied by black refried beans and spanish rice. This meal never gets old.

Happy Thanksgiving from Hawaii! I am thankful that God created such beautiful scenery. I am thankful for my wonderful husband, Cory, who treats me like a queen. I am thankful for the love and support of my family. I am thankful for my many friends who keep me laughing and loving life. Beyond that, it’s all just icing on the cake!

Veggie Spring Rolls from Whole Foods Kahala. These bite sized rolls are almost too pretty to eat…almost. Filled with tofu, cucumber, carrots and red cabbage, wrapped in butter lettuce and rice wraps, topped with peanut sauce. A great guilt-free snack!

Sadly, our trip has come to an end and we must say goodbye to our Colorado family. It has been a great couple of weeks filled with many fun memories. Thank you to everyone who housed and fed us while we were in town. We can’t wait to see you all again.
